Interview With Mme Weathersby Shoes

Mme. Movie La Reine Mid Calf Boot

1. How did you come up with the idea of creating Mme. Weathersby Shoes?

Mme creates apparel, handbags, and footwear, also furniture. The shoes are getting the most buzz at this point. I love history architecture, culture, and all things feminine. That’s where my ideas come from. I can look at a petal, and in my mind, a collection can come forth.

2. Your collection is gorgeous, how do you draw inspiration for your feminine designs?

Anything that stands still, planted or moving can inspire me. I love the arts, not so much pop culture. The past inspires me more than the condition of the world today.

3. What is your favorite shoe you’ve ever created, and why?

I don’t have one, but my mother always says, “This is my favorite.” Then another design is made, and I outdo myself. I like a good challenge. I’m an INTJ, so I enjoy perfection, and want my customers to know that they have purchased a piece of wearable art, that brings them good attention.

4. Tell me a little about the process of making your shoes – how long does it take, on average, to make one shoe, for example?

It depends on the factory. I have gotten some duds, believe me when I say that. I was going to do a peacock shoe, and the factory gave me a green shoe filled with ghastly feathers and sequins. It looked like Big Bird on crack! Their favorite line, is “You don’t like?”

5. What do you look for in a shoe?

Beauty, Wearability, tailored perfect merchandise.

6. Number of shoes you own?

Basically everything you see in my collection , and then some, not all of Mme shoes are shown to the public. I do not own a pair of designer shoes, but I would like to someday. Like a pair of Chanel Ballet Flats.

7. Favorite designer?

YVES SAINT LAURENT the original master of course. I have his books, DVD of him. That man was genius and I will always love what he created, and the great skills of his business partner Pierre Berge. The old masters are dying out. I would love to have met him. Remember these were the days when the designs had classy mothers, and sophisticated lives, and imitated what they saw, but made the clothing of the future , which is what we wear today. Christan Dior, the original master, is my favorite also. Remember Yves worked for Christin Dior when he was a teenager. Oh, don’t forget the genius of modernity Mr. Lagerfeld.

8. What’s on your playlist now?

I don’t listen to that much music except for upbeat jazz like IILYA-they DIED FOR BEAUTY. That album is great A++, remember that Revlon Commercial with Halle Berry, and a song called Bellisimo. I love listening to commercials because the songs are better than those on the radio, which I don’t listen to, except for talk radio, classical, and jazz. I love my SADE, Jackson 5, and I’ve been listening to old Motown music, and rediscovered a great group from the 80′s called the System. Oh, and Robert Palmer, what a great artist.

9. What was on your Christmas wish list?

I don’t really celebrate Christmas. Maybe if I get married, or have children I will celebrate it. But very soon. I would love to go to an orphanage and give presents to those parent-less souls, and make them happy and have a pep talk with them. I have a heart for orphans, and people that can not defend themselves.

10. What’s next for Mme Weathersby?

Loads of trade shows like WSA, The Magic, La Fashion Week, hopefully to premier the apparel, furniture and perfume, Haute Couture appointments etc…

Shine This Holiday Season In Dazzling Shoes

Nine West Timepiece Pumps, $89 at NineWest.com

These are the shoes I ended up bringing to Kansas with me for the holidays.  I would have brought more options, but I had for myself the goal of packing light, and I succeeded – fitting everything in one suitcase (under 50lbs) and my laptop bag!  These Nine West pumps are perfect, with the beaded decoration on the heels and the supple suede upper, and of course black goes with everything.  Not to mention they make my legs look AHH-MAZING and my feet don’t hurt after a few hours in them.

Of course, one pair of heels just won’t quite cut it for me…I did make a shoe purchase at TJ Maxx the other day ($69!!!) that will make me look and feel like royalty during the New Year’s Eve festivities.

Tsubo Fall 2010 & Spring 2011 Shoes Preview

While Christmas is right around the corner, I need to start prepping you for the fact that spring shoe collections are already being discussed, and once the New Year arrives it will be high time to start seriously shopping for spring shoes!  I had the pleasure of catching up with a few of the passionate  people behind the Tsubo brand last month during a press preview for the fall and Spring/Summer 2011 collections.  Tsubo shoes can be spotted from a mile away and stand out amongst their competitors, thanks to their edgy-yet-classic designs and comfort technology.  I have now reviewed five pairs of Tsubo shoes – Elger, Fadis, Kirs, Millay, and Acrea.  My latest, the Acrea in this unique very berry/merlot colorway inspired by rain drops, is my favorite yet.  I can see myself wearing these nearly anywhere I want to make a splash!

The futuristic Acrea is still going strong in soft neutrals that are equally perfect for work and for more casual occasions.

All of Tsubo shoes are made of the highest quality materials and have substantial comfort innovations.  Take for example the cushioned insoles and a unique rubber-grip sole that make these shoes you could “play basketball in” – laid back but still put together!

I’m particularly interested in the new line of flat sandals and platform sandals Tsubo has added for spring.  They just look so easy-breezy and comfortable!

Will you be picking up a pair of Tsubo shoes this fall?

Packing For Holiday Travel

When I woke up this morning, I had to take a second and remind myself that Christmas is a mere two weeks away.  While I’m fully in the Christmas spirit, I have much to prepare before the festivities ensue, including planning my party outfits, what to pack for my visit home, and what shoes to start the New Year off on the right foot.  One week from tomorrow I’m flying home for a few weeks to visit family and friends I haven’t seen in months.  I’m so looking forward to it, but I hadn’t even begun to think about what I’ll need to bring and wear until now.  So, here is my list of things I’m planning on taking with me to Kansas this holiday season.  What do you think are essentials for holiday travel?  Anything I should add?

I’m making sure to bring a pair of combination rain/snow boots to deal with all the messy winter weather.  My new Cougar boots are perfect for the job!  Thanks to the fabric shaft they should fold away nicely in my suitcase. (Cougar ‘Ringo Star’, $180 at DNAFootwear.com)

As far as party shoes go, I’m only planning on bringing a pair of beaded black suede Nine West pumps and a pair of festive, sparkling red Jessica Bennett d’orsays.

I’m in love with my new black Kate Spade bag.  She’s all I need for any ladylike holiday look.  Don’t you agree?

Portlano eggplant purple cashmere gloves will keep my hands warm, even while I text!  (Thanks Saks, what a great gift idea!)

Bootights are a must-have for any boot lovers – they give you the comfort of socks and the warmth and style quotient of tights!  I’m bringing two different pairs – one mid-calf and one ankle-sock style.

Two party dresses are coming with me. I’m not going to bring a whole lot in the way of clothes because 1. I have many clothes still at my mom’s house and 2. I plan on receiving and buying new clothing during my visit. I need to conserve suitcase space! :)  But the berry-hued asymmetrical Betsey Johnson dress and gold Laundry by Shelli Segal mini are just too perfect for winter parties!  I have the perfect faux fur throw in mind to go with…

Something light to read while on the plane – A Year in High Heels by Camilla Morton ($11.53 at Amazon.com) and my cute shoe-shaped bookmark.

And of course, a sturdy suitcase is a must, and I rely on my purple Samsonite luggage.  Are you traveling this holiday season?  What will you bring with you?

Holiday Window Shopping Along Fifth Avenue

Last week I found myself strolling down Fifth Avenue, and I decided to shoot a few of the gorgeous holiday window displays that caught my eye.  Juicy Couture’s window display was playful and cutesy.  Check out the fun furry mittens and fur-trimmed wedge snow boots!

Juicy couture says you can be comfy in sweats this holiday season and still look dressed.  Just add a few great accessories.

Cartier put a big red bow on their building.

Fendi’s glimmering, buckled belts of dripping icicle lights really take the cake.  You have to see them glistening in person for the full effect!

Here are just a few of the elegant outdoor-themed window displays at Bergdorf Goodman.

VOLATILE Cloak Boots Review

Volatile Cloak

Remember when I reviewed the Miz Mooz Gayle boots? Well my friend David from VOLATILE footwear brought to my attention this similar two-in-one shoe style by Volatile USA – the Cloak.  I wore these out one date night, with my favorite floral fishnet tights, and I got more than a few glances.   The faux leather feels luxurious and folds down so you can have a cuffed boot look, or leave it up for an edgy city look (my favorite).   The Cloak is a shorter and more casual option, and I believe it is a more flattering style for shorter girls, but Miz Mooz’s Gayle is made of real leather and has a taller shaft that cuffs beautifully.  So now that you’ve seen both of these styles, which boots do you like more – Volatile’s Cloak (shown here) or Miz Mooz’s Gayle?

Shop the VOLATILE Women’s Cloak for $68 at VolatileUSA.com.

Stocking Stuffers For Shoe Lovers Under $100

Yep, that’s right.  My Christmas stocking is this cute clog-bottom fur-trim boot (thanks Mom!).  Fill your shoe lover’s stocking with any (or all) of these fun and affordable items this holiday season.

BOOTIGHTS

Tights made specifically for wearing with boots!  Bootights now come in fun patterns and colors, so you can show your personality while remaining cozy and comfy.  See my review ($30-32 at bootights.com)

DIVA DIAMONDZ

Diva Diamondz keep your shoes smelling as nice as they look.  Diva Diamondz contain a powerful volcanic mineral that draws odor and moisture out of shoes. The mineral is also antimicrobial, which means that is fights bacteria and fungus. Simply place a pouch inside each shoe at the end of the day. Overnight the smell and moisture is absorbed into the pouch.  Diva Diamondz purses contain 2 pouches, one for each shoe.  When the diamond starts to smell like your feet, place it in the sun to recharge. You will have to recharge your Diva Diamondz once or twice a year.  ($18.00 at Diva Diamondz.com)

GIFT CARDS

This probably goes without saying, but a gift card to any shoe store is always a great choice!  I really like Bergdorf Goodman’s Sole Mates Gift Card.

MANOLO BLAHNIK FOR LIBERTY NOTEBOOK
