Barbara Briones Spring Summer 2011 Collection

Upcoming Chilean shoe designer Barbara Briones has crept onto my shoe radar, and she is definitely one to watch!  I’ve been smitten ever since I laid eyes on her purple tie-dye pump, just one of the beautifully-handcrafted shoes from her Spring/Summer 2011 collection.

Barbara is reviving the shoemaking tradition in her home country, employing local artisans and leather artists in Santiago, Chile to produce her shoes.  The way she mixes various materials and moods with an undercurrent of vintage glamour is extremely charming.

After studying in London at the Cordwainers school, Barbara worked for Mulberry in London, and for Ferragamo in Firenze before launching her line a few seasons ago.  From ankle booties to sandals and flats, the current collection offers something special for every taste.

And, as the designer herself asserts, these shoes are designed for wearing.

Even though what we design should be an object of desire, we cannot forget that it should also be wearable.

To purchase , visit BarbaraBriones.com.  I heard it through the grapevine that soon one of Barbara Briones shoes will be available at Anthropologie!

Thrifty Thursday: Candela Woven Leather Sandals

There’s just something about this woven leather high heeled sandal by Candela.  Part ankle boot, part open-toe sandal, it features all of the elements of the perfect summer shoe.  The pink and yellow straps add a subtle touch of color to the tan upper, and the braided straps offer a bohemian feel.  Not to mention you can wear it with many different colors, from browns and blacks to pure white and even solid pink or yellow.

It’s still available in most sizes at Saks.com, but I’m sure it will sell out fast!                Shop: Candela Woven Leather Ankle Sandal Boots$381.00  Sale $151.99

Energizing Coral Shoes For Summer

We’ve hit mid-July and that means sweltering, nap-inducing temperatures.  Yes, there’s nothing better than cooling off with a lazy dip in the pool and an icy tropical beverage.  But why not zap your summer wardrobe with a stylish splash of coral?  Here are a few of the season’s top coral shoes that will take you from the beach to a dinner date and everywhere in between.

Miss Me Kasana Thong Sandal, $19.95

Giles Deacon for Nine West Fall 2011 Collection

Nine West has partnered with British fashion designer Giles Deacon to create a whimsical capsule collection for fall/winter 2011-12.  A fun contrast from Nine West’s super-feminine “Shoelaboration” with Sophie Theallet, this collection includes carry-everywhere canvas and leather tote bags, a chunky suede wedge, a buckled bootie, pointy-toed flats and playful necklaces.

That mischievous little mouse-like creature on several of the pieces?  That’s Eek, the motif used by Giles in many of his signature collections.  So cute!  You will see him on the tote bag, hanging from jewelry, and included on details like zipper pulls.

The Giles Deacon for Nine West collection launches in August but is available for pre-order now. Prices start at $26 for jewelry and $99 for handbags and footwear.  Choose your Eek!

And The Giveaway Winner Is…

Thank you all for the sweet birthday wishes and great styling suggestions over the weekend!  I had a great night out in my Charles Jourdan pumps.  As much as I wanted to wear the red Kandee heels, my Betsey Johnson dress never arrived and so I had to go with a more sophisticated little black dress, and thought the Jourdans were perfect.

I wish I could give you all a gift card for helping me choose my birthday shoes, but alas there is only one winner this time…

Congratulations, Adriana!  I chose your entry at random!  I’ll be in touch via email so I can send you your $50 Famous Footwear gift card.  Adriana said:

“I like the Charles Jourdan platform pumps. The dress, while all black, has a lot of detail and fabric. It would look great with simple, black heels…All options would look fabulous, however. Happy bday!!”

Thanks to all who entered, and stay tuned for more!

Choose My Birthday Shoes (Giveaway, Now Closed)

Giveaway Update: Congratulations, Adriana!  You’ve won this giveaway!  I’ll be in touch via email to get you your gift card.  Thanks for all of your opinions, and stay tuned for the next giveaway!

With my birthday coming up on Saturday (ohmigosh, that’s tomorrow), I wanted to bring you in on the fun and run a quick giveaway!  Help me choose what shoes to wear for the night out, and you could win this $50 gift card to Famous Footwear.

The boyfriend is taking me to dinner and drinks on Saturday night, and I’ve already got the dress (Betsey Johnson’s cutesy black cocktail dress, snagged on ideeli for just $12), so I really just need to choose the shoes and accessories.  I was going to wear the Christian Louboutin New Simple pumps I ordered, but they arrived and are too big!  No worries – I’m sending them back to get the right size – but that leaves me without designated birthday shoes.  So here’s where you come in…

How To Enter The Giveaway

  1. Subscribe to Shoe Smitten, either via email or RSS.
  2. Leave me a comment below (including your email) saying which shoes you think I should wear, and what accessories you’d put with the look.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
