Word of the Week: Cap Toe…On Necktie Pumps!

Time for a weekly lesson in shoe vocabulary!  Also known as a tip, a cap toe is a separate piece of leather sewn over the toe box, forming a cap.  It is typically considered a very traditional dress look.  Pointy metallic cap toes (like these by Givenchy, $590) are going to be popular for Fall 2011.

I’ve featured cap toe shoes in the past, but these playful tuxedo-inspired pumps deserved a spotlight of their own!  Danish designer Lola Ramona carefully positioned a necktie and collar cupping their side-buckled upper, and striped heels offer a fun contrast to the buttoned-up style.

What would you pair with these necktie pumps?

Thank you for finally using one of my suggestions…

I would get these just for the heel…it’s always the minor details that get me (i.e. lining in Betsy Johnson shoes)! I would wear these with one of my many LBDs that I’ve collected over the years. But they seem like more of a winter shoe, right?

You’re welcome! But I’ve used a few of your suggestions in the past…

It’s a pretty fun shoe! And yes I’d agree, it would look really great in the winter, maybe with a body-con dress or a girly lbd.

I found the A.L.C. Simone dress that looks like it might go well with these…any thoughts?
