Talk To The Shoe

One UK company O2 has taken upcycling to a whole new level, collaborating with designer Sean Miles to create fully functional phones using recycled handsets and vintage shoes. The “Walkie Talkies” project is part of the communication company’s O2 Recycle campaign, which rewards those who recycle their gadgets with money and showcases the creative possibilities of recycling old handsets and shoes.

Miles created four designs using a Christian Louboutin heel (my favorite), a classic men’s brogue, a Nike Air trainer and a Hunter Welly. Each design contains old Nokia and LG handsets sent in by O2 Recycle customers. Each shoe phone can be flipped over and used like a normal phone, since a keypad has been incorporated into the soles.

Keep an eye out for other products Sean Miles is developing for The O2 Recycle Collection, including handbags and gloves. The complete set will be displayed in March at a planned exhibition.

While these shoes are not made for walking, they would make for an interesting conversation starter on the street.  If nothing else, you could cause quite the stir as onlookers try to figure out if you’re crazy or simply “eccentric”.
