Spring Forward With The Season’s Hottest Shoes

Today marks the first official day of spring, which means it’s time to bring out those sandals!  During this week I’m going to present to you a few shoes from my own collection that I just can’t wait to wear.  LOOK FOR VIDEO CLIPS! :)  I’ll be showing off embellished flats, thong sandals, sandal booties and more, so stay tuned!  Now here are my thoughts on some of the top shoe trends for spring 2011:

Espadrilles

My favorite!  This is a popular look every spring, but this year look for flats, wedges and even platform pumps with rope soles.  If you only buy one shoe for spring, I suggest the Kelsi Dagger Ivy espadrille wedge, so chic!

Military

The military shoe trend is still going strong, especially when it comes to open toe booties.  These Report Mozelle open toe ankle boots are the prefect way to make your favorite sundress less frou-frou and more fashion-forward.

Flatforms

I am not at all a fan of flatforms.  Sure, this style gives you a bit of lift without pitching you forward on your toes, but I don’t see anything avant garde or “good-looking” about these shoes.  They’re not at all flattering, or easy to walk in for that matter. But I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention them here, because they’re being touted all over the fashion blogosphere as one of the hottest trends to watch.  At least I’m not alone – ShoeBlog wonders why flatforms are sweeping spring shelves.

Statement Wedges

The higher and brighter, the better!  I particularly love wedges with bold prints, like these Julian Louie for Aldo wedge booties.  Wait until you see my Michael Kors wedges, they’re super-high, super-light and I swear I can wear them all day long.

Embellished Flat Sandals

This week I’ll show you my favorite new pair of flat sandals, with plenty of elegant embellishment.  No one should have to resort to regular old flip flops when you can wear these Jessica Simpson embellished thong sandals!

Shoe Lust: Report Signature Kane Thigh High Boots

So, now that I’ve bought my first pair of OTK boots, I have the urge to own a pair of thigh-high beauties like these Report Signature Kane Thigh High Boots. It’s the logical next step this fall, right?  I don’t think $475 is too much to ask for such a flashy boot, with the zipper detail and beautiful leather or suede upper.  Square metallic studs adorn the 18 inch circumference collar and removable garter strap, which can be attached to a belt!  Partial side zipper and elastic goring ensure easy on and off.  The heel stands 3 1/8 inches tall with a 3/4-inch hidden platform.

But go figure – the Kane boots are sold out!  So for now I’ll just sit here and drool on my keyboard, and hope that I can find an alternative that’s just as fabulous (and costs a little less).  Anyone have suggestions?  Leave them in the comments!  :)

I’d wear the Kane boots in suede with a flirty little party dress and sheer black tights to keep the S&M vibe to a minimum (if that’s possible with these boots).  Picture Taylor Momsen of Gossip Girl fame wearing thigh-high black boots with her cute ball gown dress in Season 1:

South Korea Designates Pink Parking Spaces For Women Wearing High Heels

Soon, women who choose to wear high heels in Seoul will have designated parking spaces!  Thousands of parking spaces will be painted pink for women, the idea being they won’t have to walk as far to the mall or work or job interviews.  So far 4,929 public and private spaces have been designated for this purpose, and thousands more are slated to go pink next year. It sounds like a nice idea, but it hardly improves the sense of gender equality in South Korea.  Now don’t get me wrong – If the U.S. set aside these parking spaces for stiletto-lovers, I certainly wouldn’t complain.  But aren’t women capable of walking the extra twenty yards to their job or the store in heels without the government’s help?  Maybe not if they’re wearing these Report Signature Women’s Formosa Platform Slingbacks:

This glamorous pump embodies a naughty-meets-nice attitude that’s perfect for the office. Its pretty pleated vamp is very feminine while the 5″-high heel, thick strap, and shiny metal buckle show you mean business.

What do you think?  Will this “Women Friendly Seoul Project” help transform the notoriously macho Asian city into a safer, more heel-friendly place for women, or is it just a silly and offensive idea?
