Holiday Party Dressing With Curves

The holiday season is upon us, which calls for flattering party dresses and cute shoes to match.  If you wear a dress size 12 or larger, this task can be daunting.  I’ve found the chicest UK-based online store that makes plus-size dress shopping a cinch and lots of fun!  Marisota has a great selection of dresses for ladies with curves. You can even shop the dresses by “Figure Fixers” to find just the style for you.

What is just as fabulous is their selection of fashionable footwear! Here are a few of my favorite dresses from Marisota, along with some fabulous heels that guarantee you will make a grand entrance at any event.

Best Dress For “Fixing” Arms

Changes By Together Print Dress – The elegant butterfly sleeves help cover any arm flab, while the pretty floral print and deep v-neck draw attention to sexy décolletage and a minimized middle (thanks to the empire waistline and black skirt).

Wear this dress with solid black peep-toe pumps, such as the Ravel Kalista platform pump.

Best Dress For “Fixing” Tummy

Maxi Dress with Pleats – Side pleating at the waist draws the eye to the hip and creates a slim midsection, while the pleating on the right shoulder balances the look and adds interest.

Wear this simple yet elegant red dress with strappy gold or silver-tone metallic heels, such as the Moda in Pelle Raven Ladies Sandals.

Best Dress For “Fixing” Bums

Joanna Hope Angel Sleeve Lace Dress – Got a little more booty than you care to flaunt?  Try wearing a lace dress with a free-flowing skirt with shaping leggings or tights.  When you walk all eyes will be on your great calves and dazzling shoes!

Depending on the hemline length, you can either wear heeled ankle boots for a more edgy look or some closed-toe pumps like the Ravel Halo platform courts to give your bum an extra lift that only high heels can.

My Favorite Evening Gown

Changes by Together Beaded Dress – This figure-skimming strappy dress is dripping with beadwork and sequins, something you can only get away with at this time of year.  The flattering lines and classic sweetheart neckline make it the perfect choice for a glam New Year’s Eve champagne party.

Go all out and pair this dress with equally stunning shoes with metallic accent, such as the Moda in Pelle Jenson Cap toe pumps.

Christmas Party Shoes

Christmas is just around the corner and many of us are beginning to think about updating our wardrobes to make them Christmas party ready. If you are unsure if your Little Black number is festive enough, throwing on some great heels is a great way to make your look ready for the party season. A good pair of heels can transform an outfit, doing all the talking without the need for heavy accessorising. The women’s party shoes shown above are great to wear with any party dress, they are all in neutral tones so will go with your whole party wardrobe. The detailing on all the shoes provide a bit of sparkle and glamour to your look. A great tip is to choose a heel with a platform this will give you that desired height but will me much more comfortable making all that dancing much easier!

Holiday Dressing With An Edge

When it comes to dressing for the holidays, you can either go bold or go home.  This year, I don’t know about you but I’m feeling particularly brave, ready to try new styles and break free of the normal attire.  Forget the tried-and-true formal dresses and black pumps.  Give me peplum!  Give me spikes!  Give me statement necklaces!  After all, it helps to have a conversation piece to get things going at those dinner parties, does it not?

Why Peplum?

Peplum dresses are not only perfectly on-trend; they are flattering on any figure.  The fold of fabric cleverly conceals any extra pudge one might put on eating all those delicious snicker doodles and meringues.  Take for example this Julien Macdonald black peplum dress, with its faceted gem detailing in black, red and grey across the front of the neck.  No need for a necklace here!  Mesh side panelling at the waist shows some office holiday party-appropriate skin while the rest of the dress retains a classy, retro vibe.  I’m digging it!

Holiday Shoes With An Edge

Another of my current obsessions is spiked shoes and boots, and these dazzling courts are the perfect complement to a flirty hourglass-enhancing dress.  The Carvela Kurt Geiger Genny is a mid heel shoe featuring peep toe, cigarette heel and sequin and stud embellishment.  I adore the small spikes and how they lend just a touch of edge to an otherwise classic shoe shape.

How will you push your style envelope this holiday season?  What pieces are you looking forward to flaunting at holiday parties?

3 Tips For Choosing Your Holiday Shoes

Christmas is just 5 days away, and with the upcoming holiday dinners and events it can be a little overwhelming to choose what to wear.  But if you start with your shoes and work your way up, it becomes a breeze – just decide on the mood you’re going for, and go for it!  Here are 3 elements to look for when choosing your Christmas and New Year’s shoes.

1. Red Velvet Is So Delicious

No material conveys Christmas quite like velvet, and when you deck your feet with red velvet pumps, you’ll be the queen of the evening.  Case in point: Giuseppe Zanotti’s Velvet Platform Slingback.  Just add a little black dress and as many jewels as your heart desires!

2. All That Glitters Is Gold

Well, not literally.  Regardless of the color you don, you can’t fail when you step out in sparkling shoes.  And don’t think you have to go high or go home – glittery flats are a comfortable and playful choice.  I like the Converse Winter Glitz sneakers ($59.95) paired with a festive sweater, mini skirt and tights or leggings.

3. Bows and Frills For Feminine Thrills

This is the one time of year (besides maybe your birthday) when it’s generally encouraged to wear ornamented shoes.  Choose a sexy strappy sandal with a sweet bow or a platform pump with ruffle detail for a touch of feminine charm.  Consider Paris Hilton Selene Bow Sandals ($89)and a body-con dress for a sultry New Year’s Eve cocktail look.

Which shoes are you considering for your holiday festivities?

Shine This Holiday Season In Dazzling Shoes

Nine West Timepiece Pumps, $89 at NineWest.com

These are the shoes I ended up bringing to Kansas with me for the holidays.  I would have brought more options, but I had for myself the goal of packing light, and I succeeded – fitting everything in one suitcase (under 50lbs) and my laptop bag!  These Nine West pumps are perfect, with the beaded decoration on the heels and the supple suede upper, and of course black goes with everything.  Not to mention they make my legs look AHH-MAZING and my feet don’t hurt after a few hours in them.

Of course, one pair of heels just won’t quite cut it for me…I did make a shoe purchase at TJ Maxx the other day ($69!!!) that will make me look and feel like royalty during the New Year’s Eve festivities.

Sam Edelman Queenie pewter booties, $159.20 at Shoes.com
